On March 16, 1946, a group of enterprising and civic-minded individuals from Cabadbaran came together to establish the Northern Mindanao Institute (NORMI). Following a devastating fire in 2001 that engulfed the original school building, Northern Mindanao Colleges underwent a transformation, resulting in its temporary renaming as New Northern Mindanao Colleges under a new SEC registration. Northern Mindanao Colleges has been authorized by the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to provide specialized training programs in Computer Programming NC IV and Hotel Restaurant Services Training NC II.
